Lead Expert construction and quantum on small building related litigation.

One of two project managers for a super market development acting on behalf of developer at the request of the funders (Design and Build). General advice on claims petro-chem, civil, building, M & E, etc.

Instrumental in setting up a Co-operation Agreement with a Major Law Agency in the Peoples Republic of China. Attempting to set up business with the PRC (proposals for feasibility studies and contracting seminars).

Work included setting up major Sub-contracts (fabrication and installation of sub-sea tie ins and compression facility, shore pull and land line, Hydrotest, Dredging, etc.), claims, insurance, tax matters, charter parties, and final accounts on US$250,000,000 Project.

A specialist fabrications and service supply company. Set up design Sub-contract for major design and build cost plus target contract, assisted with civil / mechanical tender, various minor contracts and presentations to clients.

July 1993 - June 1994

Senior Contracts Officer: Amoco Head Office based.

Duties include engineering and specialist contracts including 'CRINE' related Contractor incentive based contracts (including preparation of OJ entries, questionnaires and administration of EC Procurement Regulations. and CONDAM compliance.) Areas included well testing, pigging simplification/demaning projects, sub-sea inspection and repair, pipeline survey, platform removal research etc. Introduction of successful incentive schemes. Preparation of major insurance claims. Outsource contract for main office including maintenance, cleaning, security, stationary, reprographics and catering (including TUPE related problems).

March 1991 - July 1993

Contracts Co-ordinator: AMOCO - based CATS project office.

Duties included preparation of Bid Documents, Evaluation of Bids and Negotiation of Contracts, contractual and commercial administration (including claims) of existing/new contracts, crossing agreements and tie-in agreements.
Preparation and negotiation of major insurance claims. Refutation of contractor claims, preparation and negotiation of counter claims.

Initially/finally administration duties covered all CATS and interfield pipelines contracts (interfield and agency type contracts administered by a colleague for the construction/installation phase).

June 1990 - March 1991

Senior Contracts Engineer: AMOCO head office based

Duties included preparation of Bid Documents, Evaluation of Bids, Negotiation of Contracts (construction, operation and exploration related) for Vessels, Fabrication, Installation, Inspection, Surveys, Diving etc., together with ongoing contractual administration of existing and new contracts (including all major contracts for CATS and Central Graben Development Project pipelines and survey and Montrose living quarters replacement).

Also involved in negotiations with other oil and gas majors in respect of crossing and tie-in agreements

November 1989 - June 1990

Contracts Administrator: AMOCO ESD Valve and Safety Enhancement Project (20 Platforms South and North Sea).
Duties included preparation of Bid Documents, Evaluation of Bids and Negotiation of Contracts for Vessels, Fabrication, Installation, Inspection, etc., together with ongoing contractual and commercial administration of existing and new contracts. Included one of the fastest SSIS (Sub Sea Isolation System) retrofit contract six months from instruction to completion on a full turnkey basis.

Commercial Manager (Lead Cost Engineer) - KG Ethylene Project for BP Chemicals Ltd.

Replaced by BP staff man returning from Norway.

January 1988 - April 1989

Senior Contracts Engineer Shell Expro Southern Operations Project Group.

Responsibilities as for F&G, including developments of EPIC (Engineer, Procure, Install and Construct) style contracts and various drilling contracts including rigs, tools wire line etc.

Assisted operations group with claim refutation on a variety of maintenance and re-engineering contracts.

August 1985 - January 1988

Senior Project Administrator: Shell Expro, for the Leman F&G Project.

Responsible for all Contractual Administration
on the project including Jacket and Topsides Fabrication, Installation, Pipelay, Tie-ins, Design, Inspection, Certification and Well Stimulation. Duties included preparation of Invitations to Tender, Tender Evaluation, Contract Negotiation, Claims Negotiation and QS duties on Pipelay, Installation, Accommodation Vessels and overview responsibility for commercial matters on other contracts.

Marine Contract Administrator: Marathon Oil UK Limited.

Responsible for management and preparation of Invitations to Tender, negotiation of contracts and all contractual administration of Pipeline, Installation, Hook-up Support, Pipe Coating, Warranty Surveying and associated design contracts.

Long term assignment to Management Contractor John Brown) working on behalf of British Gas Corporation as sole Contractors Administrator for the Rough Storage Project, BD, BP, CD, AP and AD Platform Installation Contract.

Worked both onshore and offshore, responsible for issuing all instructions to contractors, processing payments, raising change authorisations (including advising client on budgets), analysis and reporting on claims, contractual and monthly cost reports/forecasts. Also administered Accommodation Vessel Charter Contract and related matters for Hook-up and Commissioning Phase. (Answerable direct to BGC Contracts Group Officer).

On contract to British firm of Quantity Surveyors, Medhurst Gray Associates. Loaned out to Kuk-Dong Construction Company Limited for their project at Jubail Port, Commercial Harbour, Phase II.

Based Saudi Arabia and Holland mainly involved in co-ordination between Van Swaay Installaties BV (Mechanical and Electrical sub-contractor), Servaquip Limited (Kitchen and Cold Room sub- contractors), Condor Exports Limited (Steel Frame sub-contractors), and Kuk-Dong's client (the Main Contractor for the project) Royal Adrian Volker - Hochtief - CCC. Joint Venture. Produced and agreed final accounts for HVAC and electrical works. Offered extension to contract but decided to return home due to impending arrival of our third child, completed some works post contract on a part-time basis.

June 1978 - September 1978

Al-Fairuz Trading and Contracting Company
Ltd, Muscat, Oman. –

Senior Quantity Surveyor.

Worked in close co-ordination with a small group of Europeans brought out to handle two major projects and attempt to reorganise existing company into a position to handle larger contracts than those previously forming the bulk of their work. Covered all quantity surveying duties on Omani Rial one million reservoir and water main project in Muscat and Omani Rial 2.5 million 26 kilometre water main project Salalah, plus all international and major local buying, estimated (with general manager) major international sector projects, assisted European, Egyptian and Indian management on existing projects in sever financial difficulties and well behind programme. Attempted to set up cost control system and revise account system.

June 1976 - January 1978

On Contract to MJN International Ltd- Bahrain Int. Airport.

Initially prepared claim for MJN and their joint venture partner, Easter Electric Limited then took over as MJN's Project Surveyor and dealt with all valuations, both internal and external, dayworks, claims, variations, all contractual correspondence and Final Account including negotiations in liaison with Main Contractor, Howards of Chatham and Clients Consultants, Gibb Petermuller in Athens.

April 1975 - May 1976

On Contract to Haden International Ltd in Jeddah.

Project Surveyor: Jeddah Int. Airport. Eighteen million pound electrical/electronics contract. External valuations, variations, dayworks, cost feasibility exercises, claim & contractual problems.

July 1974 - April 1975

On contract to Cementation Construction Limited (Overseas) in Indonesia:

Project Surveyor
Took over last stages of contract (other surveyor was invalided home) on Jakarta Hilton Hotel Project. Dealt with all necessary surveying duties on this six million pound semi-package deal project, including external and internal valuations, sub- contracts, dayworks and watchdog activities related to Hilton and interior design budgets. Covered for accountant whilst he was on leave.

Also advised on contractual position/claim for Drilling contract in Sumatra.

Also involved in Civil Building and Dredging Work for development of new yard and storage facilities. Took over as Project Surveyor and dealt with all aspects of financial/ contractual management to Final Account.

Company Surveyor: SLP Fabricating Engineers Limited:

Involved in contractual aspects of Marathon Brae A 04, 06 and 14 contracts (value approximately 40 million pounds), vetting and setting up of Conoco Hutton Accommodation and Helideck Modules Contract.

Fluor Europe Construction Limited:

Senior Sub-contract Administrator:

Involved in the production of proposals and the vetting/production of base sub-contract documents for Abu Dhabi (ADNOC), Wilhemshaven and Wilton (ICI) and sundry exercises for Iran Oil Services Co.

Made redundant (Part of mass redundancy) as a result of cut backs in Middle East contracts and in the USA.

Y J Lovell (London) Limited

Senior Site Surveyor: Holloway Prison, Phase II and III.

Responsible for full range of surveying duties including external valuations, internal valuations (Cost/value reconciliation/cost control), daywork, sub-contract accounts, material take-offs, costs feasibility exercises and claims, CCC Wks 1 Contract. Worked with a team of four juniors and in close liaison with the bonus surveyors and management team.

West's Piling and Construction Limited:
Area Surveyor: Specialist Piling, Eastern Region of England (Thames to boarders of Scotland).
Responsible for negotiating contracts, contract co-ordination, internal and external valuations and claims. Foundation contracts and piling contracts. Duties included bid preparation, measurement, final accounts and claims. Contract values from ten thousand to over half a million pounds in value. (Answerable to chief surveyor).

July 1970 - July 1972

J Murphy and Sons Limited:
Area Surveyor: North West.

+Responsible with two civil engineers for building up civil and building division in an area where previously only gas line and cable laying contracts had been carried out. Covered negotiating contracts, sub- contracts, estimating, choosing tenders to price, handling contracts, obtaining position on selected tender lists, internal and external valuations, advising and controlling buying and costing departments, measurement engineers and surveyors.

Contracts included housing modernisation, road widening schemes, new dual carriageways, sewers, thrust bores, sewage farms, bridges, swimming pool, demolitions, gas lines etc.
(Answerable to Director).

Senior Surveyor:

Responsible for all surveying work (to the Chief Surveyor) on West Thurrock Pumped Sewer, Northfleet Sports Complex and Swimming Pool, Catholic Grammar School -Highgate, Carpenters Road Relief Sewer, Various Thurstbore Contracts, Gas Conversion Tunnel, Cement Works, Ivinghoe Beacon Bucks and GPO Northwest Disconnected Contracts.
